You're already standing in the mission field
Can I be honest with you about something?
For a long time, I think I quietly believed that the people doing the real work for God were somewhere else. They were overseas. They had a theology degree. They’d given up something dramatic and visible.
And I was just... here. Work commute, supermarket queue, kitchen table.
This week, one verse stopped me in my tracks. Isaiah 52:7 - “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good news.”
Beautiful feet. Not gifted feet. Not qualified feet. Just feet that go.
And when I looked at how Jesus called Peter, it struck me again. He didn’t send him somewhere unfamiliar. He called him to fish in the very waters he already knew. The first people Peter ever told about Jesus weren’t strangers in a foreign land - they were his brother, his fishing partners, his neighbours.
The mission starts where you are. Not where you wish you were.
So today’s devotional is really just this: one person, one step. Think of someone in your everyday life - someone you already know, already see, already brush past. And ask God one simple question: What one small, warm step could I take towards this person this week?
Maybe it’s a text. Maybe it’s a proper conversation. Maybe it’s just praying for them by name.
That’s not a lesser calling. It might be the most important one you’ll ever live.
If that resonates, the full 7-minute devotional is on YouTube today - link below. I’d love for you to watch it, and then tell me in the comments who’s on your heart.
With you in the ordinary.
