Your words are saying more than you think
Dear friend.
Have you ever said something in the heat of the moment and thought, “Where did that come from?” I have, more times than I’d like to admit.
Words are never just words. They’re clues. They’re mirrors. They’re little windows into the soul. We might think we’re only joking, or ranting, or being honest. But often what we say reveals far more than we mean it to.
Jesus put it plainly: what we say flows from what’s in our hearts (Luke 6:45). So when something sharp or cynical slips out, it’s worth gently asking what’s going on underneath.
Here’s the part I find so freeing. The answer isn’t to grit our teeth and try harder. Solomon wrote that mere talk leads nowhere (Proverbs 14:23). Talk alone doesn’t transform us. Real change, the lasting, soul-deep kind, starts when God renews our minds and softens our hearts.
I’ve seen it happen. People once known for their temper begin to speak peace. People weighed down by shame start lifting others up. Not by force, but because their hearts were being healed. It’s a quiet revolution, and it begins with surrender.
So today, a gentle question: what do your words reveal about your heart, and what would you love to fill it with instead?
If this stirs something in you, I’ve unpacked it all in today’s short devotional. I’d love for you to join me.
Grace and peace.
Rob
