You don't have to be sorted to come home
There’s a thought that lives quietly in the back of a lot of people’s minds. Maybe yours too.
I’ll sort myself out first. Then I’ll come back.
I’ve heard it from people in my church. I’ve said it to myself. It sounds responsible - even humble. Like you’re waiting until you’ve earned the right to show up.
But here’s what stopped me this week.
A tiny verse tucked away in the Old Testament - Micah 7:18 - says something that, if you really let it land, turns the whole thing upside down.
God delights in showing unfailing love.
Not tolerates. Not manages. Delights.
That means forgiveness isn’t reluctant. It isn’t God sighing and saying “fine, I suppose, but don’t do it again.” It’s joy. It’s God on his feet, already running.
Paul says the same thing differently in Romans 5 - while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Not after we’d cleaned up. Not after we’d earned a little goodwill. While we were at our very worst, love moved towards us.
I think a lot of us have guilt standing at the door telling us we’re not welcome yet. But Micah has news for us. Guilt makes a terrible gatekeeper. It was never meant to keep you out. It was meant to point you home.
You are already welcome. You were welcome before you even thought to come.
Today’s devotional explores this in full - three short, practical thoughts on why you don’t have to be ready for grace to reach you. I’d love for you to watch it.
