When you can't see the way forward
Hello friend.
I want to ask you a gentle question this morning. What do you do when you can’t see the way forward? When every step feels uncertain and the future looks unclear?
Maybe that’s exactly where you are right now. Maybe it’s a health worry, a work decision, a relationship that’s gone quiet, or just a low hum of “I don’t know what comes next.” If so, this is for you.
Today’s devotional sits with Isaiah 50:10: “If you are walking in darkness without a ray of light, trust in the Lord and rely on your God.”
I love how honest that verse is. It doesn’t promise the darkness will lift by tomorrow. It doesn’t pretend clarity is always just around the corner. It simply calls us to trust amid uncertainty, to rely on God when we can’t rely on our own understanding.
Here’s the thing I’ve been learning. Faith grows stronger through uncertainty, not despite it. Anyone can trust when they can see the way forward. It takes genuine faith to trust when you can’t.
And trust in darkness doesn’t mean passive resignation. It’s active dependence. It’s choosing the next small step, even when you can’t see the staircase.
So here’s my question for you today: what one small step could you take, based on what you already know of God’s character, even if his plans remain hidden?
