When the pressure doesn't let up
Have you ever felt like you are drowning, but there is no water? Your chest is tight, your thoughts are racing, and even though you are on solid ground, everything feels like it is pulling you under.
In today’s devotional, we are looking at a vital truth: the cure for anxiety isn’t always less pressure, but more presence.
Anxiety is a Signal We often feel guilty for being anxious, but Jesus doesn’t shame us for it. He gently redirects us. In Matthew 6, he points to the birds and the flowers to remind us of our value to the father. Anxiety isn’t a sin; it’s a signal. It tells us we are carrying a load that we weren’t designed to carry.
The Power of “God is Here” Peace isn’t just the absence of problems; peace is a person. God doesn’t wait until you have calmed down to show up. He is already there in the middle of the mess.
A Simple Practice for Today When you feel that panic rise, try these three things:
Pause and Ask: “What am I trying to control that only God can handle?”
Speak the Truth: Say out loud, “God, you’re here. I’m not alone.”
Stay in Today: Remember that God gives you strength for today’s troubles. Tomorrow’s grace will be there when tomorrow comes.
You don’t need to aim for total calm right now. Just aim for one honest conversation with God.
Grace and peace. Rob
