When the cloud doesn't move
Have you ever been stuck?
Not stuck in a dramatic, life-falling-apart way. Just - nothing is moving. You can see where you want to be, but the road ahead is blocked. All you can do is sit, hands on the wheel, and wait.
I’ve been thinking about that feeling a lot this week. We’ve been walking through a series called When Everything Changes, looking at what it means when life shifts beneath your feet - in a corps or church, a workplace, a family, a season of life.
And today’s picture stopped me in my tracks. In Numbers chapter 9, the people of Israel followed a cloud through the wilderness. When it moved, they moved. When it stayed, they stayed. They had no map, no five-year plan, no neat timeline.
Here’s what struck me most: sometimes faithfulness looks like movement. But sometimes it looks like staying put - waiting, being patient, while nothing seems to happen. And that’s not failure. It’s obedience.
If you’re in a season where nothing seems to be shifting, can I gently say - that might be exactly where God wants you right now? You don’t need the whole journey mapped out. You just need to know the next step.
Today’s five-minute devotional unpacks this more fully. I’d love you to watch it:
Take care and God bless.
