When Someone Leaves: Finding Peace Through Change
Dear friend.
Transitions are strange things. Even when a change is right - even when you can see God’s hand in it - something inside you still needs time to adjust.
Maybe you’re going through that right now. Not necessarily in a church context, but in life. A colleague has moved on. A family dynamic has shifted. A community you were part of has started to feel different. And you’re not quite sure what to do with the gap it’s left.
This week on Battle Drill Daily Devotional, I’m spending seven days looking honestly at what happens when change arrives and we’re trying to find our feet. One short video a day, each taking a single honest look at a different part of the experience.
We’ll sit with grief that is actually quite healthy and normal. We’ll name the comparison trap most of us fall into without noticing. We’ll ask what belonging really means when the person who felt like an anchor has moved on. And we’ll look at what it takes to show up with a little courage - and a little trust - when neither comes easily.
I’ve written these with church communities in mind, but they’re honestly for anyone navigating a season where the ground has shifted and you’re wondering what comes next. The Bible has more to say about this kind of transition than you might expect - and it’s kinder than you might think.
