What if your darkest season is hiding treasure?
Hello friend.
I want to tell you about Warren. He found himself homeless and battling addiction, living in what he described as complete darkness. But through the Salvation Army’s rehabilitation programme, something remarkable happened. His darkness became the very place he discovered resilience, purpose, and a transformed life. Today he helps others walking the same difficult path.
That story keeps coming back to me this week, because it sits so closely alongside one of my favourite verses in the whole Bible: “I will give you treasures hidden in the darkness, secret riches” (Isaiah 45:3).
Here’s what strikes me. The treasures God speaks of aren’t consolation prizes for our suffering. They’re genuine spiritual riches that simply can’t be found any other way. Wisdom that no textbook can teach. Compassion no comfortable life can produce. Resilience you only discover when you had no choice but to keep going.
That doesn’t mean we pretend pain doesn’t matter. It does. It hurts. But it does mean we can ask a better question in the middle of it. Not just why is this happening to me? but what might God be developing in me through this?
Because your darkness might contain someone else’s hope. Your struggle might become someone else’s strength.
If this lands with you today, the full 5-minute devotional goes a little deeper, with reflection questions and a closing prayer I think you’ll find helpful.

Grace and peace.
