What if the hardest thing you're facing is actually making your faith stronger?
Friend,
I want to ask you something honest this morning.
Is there something you’ve been carrying for a long time now? A health worry that drags on and on. A relationship that takes more out of you than you have to give. A work situation that just won’t shift, no matter how hard you pray.
And somewhere in the back of your mind, quietly, a voice asks: Is God actually paying attention?
I sat with a remarkable verse this week - one I keep coming back to when things feel heavy. It’s from 1 Peter, chapter 1, verses 6 and 7. Peter writes to ordinary, exhausted people and says this:
“These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold.”
Here’s what struck me afresh. A goldsmith doesn’t put metal in the fire to create the gold. The gold is already there. The fire burns away everything that doesn’t belong - so that what remains is cleaner, clearer, and more real than before.
Peter isn’t offering a tidy answer to suffering. He wrote this from the other side of devastating failure and unexpected restoration. He knows exactly what the furnace feels like. And he says: this season isn’t wasted. It’s purposeful.
One tiny step for today: Think of the hard thing you’re carrying. Then simply say - God, I don’t understand this, but I choose to trust you in it.
That small act of trust? According to Peter, it counts.
The full devotional is on YouTube today - five minutes, and I think it might be worth your time.

See you there, Rob
