The weight you were never meant to carry alone
Dear friend.
Can I ask you something honest? When did you last feel truly rested - not just physically, but in your soul?
I’m asking because the numbers are striking. The 2025 UK Burnout Report reveals that 91% of adults experienced high or extreme stress last year. A third of us are living in a state of chronic stress - always, or often. We have convinced ourselves, somewhere along the line, that our worth depends on our output. And so rest starts to feel like failure.
Into that pressure - into this specific moment in history - Jesus speaks.
“Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:29)
It’s one of the most radical things he ever said. A yoke isn’t a burden laid on you - it’s a burden shared. And Jesus, who worked with his hands as a carpenter, would have known that a well-made yoke is custom-fitted. It doesn’t crush you. It distributes the weight.
In today’s devotional, I share the story of Tanya, who burned out twice in two years in a corporate job, and Brody, who found unexpected gentleness after 20 years of addiction. Both stories point to the same truth - Jesus doesn’t drive us harder. He teaches us a gentler way.
Today’s practical step is simple: write down one burden you’ve been carrying alone. Then give that piece of paper to God in prayer.
