The voice you've stopped noticing
Hello friend.
Let me ask you something straight away. What voice plays loudest in your mind?
For many of us, it isn’t a kind one. It says things like “you’re not good enough”, “you always mess things up”, “you’ll never change.” And it plays on repeat. Not always loudly, but often enough that we slowly start to believe it.
Here’s what struck me this week. Those words don’t just stay in our heads. They begin to shape our hearts, and Scripture tells us our hearts shape our lives. Proverbs 4:23 puts it strongly: “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”
So what do we do? Paul gives us a plan in Philippians 4:8. He tells us to fix our thoughts on what is true and honourable and right and pure and lovely and admirable. That isn’t a motivational fridge magnet. It’s a battle strategy. It’s how we change the channel.
We can’t always control which thoughts come our way. But we can choose which ones we let stay. We are the gatekeepers of our own minds, and the good news is we’re not doing it alone. The Holy Spirit gently helps us let go of what drags us down.
So here’s my gentle challenge. Pause today and really listen. Is that looping thought building you up, or tearing you down?
I unpack all of this in today’s 5-minute devotional. Come and join me here:
