The quiet battle nobody sees
Hello friend.
I want to talk about something most of us carry but rarely mention. It’s the quiet battle in the mind.
It doesn’t make a sound. It doesn’t draw attention. But it doesn’t stop, either. Maybe for you it’s a spiral of anxious thoughts. Maybe it’s a memory you can’t shake, or a voice that whispers you’ll never change. Some days it can feel like our thoughts run without our permission.
Here’s what I’ve come to believe, and it has steadied me more than once: we are not powerless, and we are not stuck.
Paul writes about capturing our rebellious thoughts and teaching them to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5, NLT). I used to find that a strange picture. Now I find it freeing. It means I don’t have to argue with every voice in my head. I can simply take one thought, hold it up to the light, and ask, “Is this true? Is this Christlike?” If it isn’t, I can hand it over and ask Jesus to speak a better word.
In my years with the Salvation Army, I’ve watched people walk through addiction, homelessness, and deep trauma, and still speak hope over their lives. Not because life got easier, but because they let Christ reshape their thinking, one thought at a time.
So let me leave you with the question I’m sitting with too: what thought is stealing your peace today?
I unpack all of this in today’s 5-minute devotional. Have a watch when you get a moment:
Grace and peace.
Rob
