The quiet battle nobody sees
Dear friend.
There’s a battle going on inside your mind today. You might not notice it. It doesn’t shout, and it doesn’t always show. But it’s there, and it matters more than we tend to think.
Because what we dwell on quietly shapes us. Thoughts become habits. Habits shape a life. And it all begins in that hidden place behind our eyes, where the headlines, the worries, and the old familiar lies keep trying to get in.
I find it such a relief that Paul didn’t tell the Christians in Ephesus to grit their teeth and fix themselves. He didn’t say try harder. Instead he wrote, “let the spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes” (Ephesians 4:23). What a gift. The pressure lifts. Real change doesn’t rest on our willpower. It comes as we make a little space and let God get to the root.
In the Salvation Army, I’ve seen this happen again and again. People once trapped in addiction find strength to walk free. Men and women who felt worthless begin to serve with real joy. That kind of shift never happens by accident. It starts with new thoughts, grounded in Scripture and nudged gently by the spirit.
So let me ask you the same question I’m asking myself: what’s filling your mind right now? You don’t have to stay stuck. You don’t have to keep replaying those tired old lies.
I’ve unpacked all of this in today’s 5-minute devotional. I’d love you to watch it here:
Grace and peace.
