The quiet ache we don't talk about
Dear friend.
Have you ever reached a goal you’d worked incredibly hard for - and then, once the initial excitement faded, felt a strange kind of flatness?
You’re not alone. And I’d suggest it’s not a sign that something is wrong with you. It might actually be a signpost pointing you somewhere important.
I had a season like that. I chased something with everything I had. Reached it. Enjoyed it for a while. And then that quiet ache came back. It was as if God was gently saying: Knowing me - not your achievements - will satisfy your soul.
Jesus put it plainly: wherever your treasure is, that’s where your heart will be (Luke 12:34). Which means the question isn’t just “what do I want?” It’s “what am I actually building my life around?”
The Psalmist had worked this out. He wrote that God’s word was worth more to him than millions in gold and silver, sweeter than honey (Psalm 119:72, 103). That sounds almost absurd in a world built on accumulation. But when you sit with Scripture - really sit with it - something shifts. Your desires shift. You give more freely. You live with a deeper, quieter joy.
God’s word isn’t a duty to tick off. It’s an invitation to live on purpose.
Today’s five-minute devotional explores this theme - and ends with a question worth sitting with.
