The lie pride tells you

Hello friend.

Can I be honest with you? I’ve been there, measuring myself by what I do, how much I achieve, trying to prove something even to God. Maybe you have too.

Today’s devotional looks at a story from David’s life. He wanted a census, not to plan wisely, but to weigh his own worth. Even his own commander tried to warn him. But David pressed on anyway, and the result was loss and regret.

Here’s the thing about pride: it never tells the truth. It promises so much more than it delivers. It says you’ve earned this, you don’t need help. And without us noticing, it pushes God to the edges of our lives.

But there’s good news. David eventually saw the damage. He came back to God in humility, and God met him there with mercy. That’s the hope for us too. Even when pride gets loud, grace speaks louder.

So here’s a question for you today: where might pride be quietly calling the shots in your life? Is there a decision where you need to let God lead, rather than your own pride?
