The leader who didn't need the spotlight
Dear friend.
Think for a moment about the most genuinely impressive leader you’ve ever known.
Not the loudest voice in the room. Not the one who always had to have the last word. I mean the one who made you feel like you could do anything. The one who stepped aside and gave you room to grow. The one who, when something went well, made sure you got the credit - even when they’d done most of the work.
What made them so impressive was probably how little they seemed to need the spotlight.
This week I’ve been sitting with Luke 22:27. It’s the night before the crucifixion. The disciples are gathered around the table for the Last Supper - and somehow, even then, they’re squabbling about who amongst them is the greatest. I find that oddly comforting. If they could miss the point so completely on that night, there’s hope for every one of us.
Jesus’ response is just one quiet sentence: “I am among you as one who serves.”
Not as the one in charge. Not as the one you should all be thanking. As a servant.
In today’s 5-minute devotional, I look at three things that moment is teaching us - about posture, about strength, and about what happens when we choose to let someone else lead.
There’s also a practical step for your next 24 hours - something small, quiet, and surprisingly freeing.
You can watch it here:
See you tomorrow.
