The 5-word prayer for your Monday morning
Good morning, friend.
I want to tell you about the most honest prayer in the whole Bible. It’s tucked away in Exodus 33, and Moses is the one praying it.
God has just promised his people a beautiful land. Milk, honey, the lot. And then he says something that winds Moses up: I’ll send an angel to lead you, but I won’t go myself.
Moses isn’t having it. He wants the real thing. So he prays what I reckon is one of the boldest prayers ever whispered: “If you don’t personally go with us, don’t make us leave this place now.” (Exodus 33:15)
In other words: I’d rather be stuck in the wilderness with you than arrive in paradise without you.
Presence over plan. Presence over promised land. Presence over everything.
And here’s the thing, friend. That’s not a Sunday-morning prayer. That’s a Monday-morning rescue rope. Because the God of the Bible isn’t a tenant who lives in a church building waiting for you to pop in. He’s a traveller. He climbed into a pillar of cloud with Israel. He pitched his tent among us in Jesus. And by his Holy Spirit, he climbs into your Monday and comes along for the ride.
So whether your Monday is a kitchen sink, a commute, or a classroom, try breathing out these five small words: “Lord, please come with me.”
I unpack the whole thing, plus a gorgeous little story from a 17th-century monk, in today’s 5-minute video.
